Module 1:

I am passionate about our Expeditionary Learning literacy curriculum in 3rd grade because your child is learning about the world around them through authentic and interesting texts! Your child is becoming a powerful reader while learning about how children access education around the world. In many of these texts, your child learns about the challenges children face around the world in gaining education. Sometimes this is because of poverty and war. The conversations we have as a class about these texts are powerful because students are learning about the value in education and having access to books. In 3rd grade, your child is developing their skills to closely reading, or reading multiple times for multiple purposes, to understand longer texts with greater comprehension. They are also learning how to be “text detectives” and find text evidence when writing about the texts that we read.
